For some people, wearing jewellery every day is a habitual part of their dressing routine, with many claiming to feel ‘bare’ or ‘naked’ if they happen to forget one of their staple pieces.
With the summer season upon us, you might find yourself outdoors more often, which could mean taking part in sporting activities like tennis or netball. While you may wear certain pieces of jewellery every day though, there are precautions you must take when it comes to wearing jewellery and playing sports.
It is recommended to remove all pieces of jewellery before taking part in sporting activities to reduce the risk of injury; but once you’ve arrived at the pitch or court, the last thing you want to do is loosely place your precious pieces of jewellery into a big sports bag where they could get damaged or broken.
Rather than wearing your jewellery to play sports, you could take it off beforehand and leave it at home. However, it’s likely you’ll want to put your favourite pieces back on after your game is over. After all, you won’t want to be without your everyday jewellery, such as earrings or a wedding ring, for too long.
If you’re wondering how to best care for your jewellery while you’re out playing sports, read on:
Simply throwing your jewellery into your sports bag is bound to cause damage and could even result in it getting lost. To avoid either of these instances, store your jewellery in a protective pouch before placing it inside your sports bag.
Something like our Multicolour Bag will help to keep your valuables safe while staying totally on trend. Made from Kilim rugs, the unique, textured pouch will prevent your jewellery from scratches and wear.
Or you might prefer our Leopard Print Satin Cosmetic Bags. These come in a set of five, each in various sizes and boasting a stunning leopard pattern. Keep your cosmetics and toiletries in the larger bags and use the small ones to store your rings, necklaces and bracelets.
Lock it away
After you’ve stored your jewellery, make sure you lock it away before heading out to play sport. You’ll find lockers inside the changing rooms of the sports centre or venue where you’re playing, so keep your belongings in there and secure them with a padlock.
This will prevent your things from getting lost or stolen, meaning you can be at ease during play.
It’s a good idea to keep a bottle of jewellery cleaning solution to hand, so after you’ve finished your game and return to your belongings, you can give them a clean before putting them on.
Although you will have stored your jewellery inside a neat little pouch, it could have picked up germs along the way – especially small pieces of jewellery like earrings. Before you come to clean it though, ensure you have showered or at least washed your hands to avoid sweat or dirt from the field coming into contact with your valuables.
