Easy NYE Makeup to make a statement

New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, which means it’s time to think about the finishing touches for to your party outfit. Once you have the dress, the accessories and the jewellery all ready to go, you just need to decide on your makeup.

Even if you don’t tend to wear much makeup usually, accentuating key areas of your face can make you feel fierce on such a big night. It also gives you an excuse to break out the glitter, because if you can’t sparkle on NYE when can you?

We all want to look amazing as we ring in the new year, so here are some easy makeup looks that anyone can manage:

Glitter eyes

Mix up a staple smoky look with a touch of sparkle for a party-ready look that will make a statement. Smoky makeup doesn’t have to be scary, and this look is reasonably easy to achieve.

Start by blending a darker shade of eyeshadow into the socket of your eyelid, along the lash line and in a subtle flick on your outer eye. You can also use a smudgeable eyeliner, which offers better control if you don’t have a steady line.

Blend this lightly at the edges to avoid harsh lines, ensuring that the middle of your eyelid has no colour on it. Put your glitter eyeshadow on this bare area and blend lightly outwards to create a slightly smoky effect with the dark colour.

Then you just need to pop on your eyeliner and mascara. Team this look with a nude or glossy lip and you’re good to go!

Sparkly eyeliner

If you want an even quicker look, a touch of glitter liquid liner can make all the difference. This is ideal if your go-to makeup style is a classic cat-eye, as this is the basis.

Simply blend a light pearlescent eyeshadow over your entire lid and add another shadow in a shade darker into the socket of your eyelid for some subtle definition. Create your usual cat-eye look with liquid liner and allow to dry.

Then you just need to add a line of glitter eyeliner above your cat eye, from the middle of your lid to the end of your flick. You can also add a small line of glitter to your inner eye, along the bottom lash line.

Finish with a few coats of volumising mascara and your statement look is done!

Bold lips

What makes more of a statement than a bold colour on your lips? Whether you love classic red, want to go bright with pink or are daring to wear this season’s royal blue trend, bold lipstick can really make your outfit.

It is also one of the easiest makeup looks to get right, but it does pay to take steps to make your colour as bright as it can be and to ensure it lasts all night.

Start by using a gentle exfoliant on your lips to smooth them and remove dry skin before popping on a slick of lip balm. Leave this on for about ten minutes – to allow it to soak in – before blending in further with your finger.

Line your lips and fill them with a pencil liner before using a lip brush to apply your lipstick. Blot your lips and then reapply your lipstick lightly to ensure totally even colour.

If you want to step up the glam factor, brush on a touch of glittery eyeshadow over your lipstick, which is sure to draw the eye even more.
