Give In To The Blue

Give in to the rare Tanzanite Collection at The Jewellery Channel.

Tanzanite is a lavish and rich looking gemstone, with bluish purple velvety hues that you can lose yourself in. In fact it is so precious it is only found in one place on the planet. Claimed to be the most important gemstone discovery in 2000 years, Tanzanite is just 45 years old having been uncovered in 1967 on the foothills of Mount Kilomanjaro in Tanzania.

Celebrities of the likes of Penelope Cruz, Cate Blanchett  and Teri Hatcher are flashing their tantalising pieces of tanzanite jewellery.

Penelope Cruz wears beautiful tanzanite and diamond earrings at the premier of her movie Vicki Christina Barcelona. Cate Blanchett wears an amazing necklace with a whopping 237 carats of cushion and round cut tanzanite at Cannes. And what can you say about Teri Hatcher’s emerald cut tanzanite cocktail ring? Speechless, other than “I WANT IT”!

Ok so if you don’t already have a piece of tanzanite jewellery you need to get shopping and quick. As this sensual gem is only found in one place, it has a finite life, and hence it will become more and more rare and of course more expensive. So here’s a guide from The Jewellery Channel on buying tanzanite:

  • Tanzanite is softer than many other gemstones – for this reason it should always be worn carefully and never brought into contact with acids. It is also not advisable to buy a tanzanite engagement ring, as the daily wear and tear is not suited to this gem.
  • The Gemological Institute of America classifies tanzanite as a Type I gemstone, meaning normally it should be flawless to the eye, with no cracks or inclusions.
  • Ultimately, a good quality smaller size tanzanite gem will be a much better buy than a lower grade but larger size option.
  • Tanzanite is extremely light sensitive. While incandescent lighting will shift its colour to the violet side, the best pieces show an intense blue under any light.

So lets get to the good bit, The Tanzanite Look Book!
