Alexandra Light, the fabulous fashion editor for Hello Magazine Online has been in the fashion industry or almost 10 years now. Alex took the time out as a guest blogger for The Jewellery Channel this week. Heres what Alex has to say about London Fashion Week …….
The curtains have closed on the capital of cool’s Fashion Week, and I have witnessed a dazzling display of catwalk fashion that has left me itching for Spring/Summer 2013.
But it’s not all about the clothes.
From Mark Fast to Holly Fulton, designers decorated their models with statement necklaces. Daisy Lowe was spotted strutting her stuff for Mark wearing an oversized, multi-strand chain piece, a look you can recreate sans the hefty price tag with this ‘Multi Color Moonstone and Labradorite 3 Pcs Magnetic Necklace (Size 36) Set 800.000 Ct.’
Meanwhile, some of the designers opted to keep their models jewellery-free – they want to keep the focus on their designs – but I really felt some of the stunning creations were screaming out for a necklace or bracelet to complete the ensemble. With this in mind, let’s take a look at some of the key pieces everyone should have in their SS13 wardrobe.
Monochrome mania swept the runways, with Giles, Maria Grachvogel and Sass & Bide all unveiling black and white confections. But your simple coloured outfits should be teamed with touches of neon – as demonstrated by Erdem and Burberry. This ‘Sterling Silver Malgache Neon Apatite Necklace 63.00 Ct’ in electric blue adds the perfect pop of neon.
Off the runway and onto the cobbles of Somerset House, jewellery featured more heavily than ever with the hordes of gem-laden fashionistas who had descended on London.
One thing’s for certain – crosses are in. I spotted the gothic accessory hanging off hundreds of necks and this ‘KARIS Collection Hebei Peridot (Ovl) Cross Pendant in Goldtone 4.500 Ct.’ is a brilliant way to subtly introduce the trend into your wardrobe.
I also predict the Union Jack – which has been emblazoned on almost everything this summer – is here to stay. The British flag was spotted incorporated into the outfits of fashion bloggers and editors all across town. This ‘RUBBA – BST British Summer of Triumph Collection Black Edition Bezelled Wrist Watch’ is a great way to flavour your style with a discreet spot of patriotism.
Another jewellery trend that I noticed from my time at Fashion Week was crystal bracelets like the ‘Shamballa Friendship Hematite Beaded, White Austrian Crystal Bracelet’ – I saw MTV presenter and front-row regular Laura Whitmore showing off a similar style. Opt for the rainbow-coloured version if you want to go brighter.
Et voila – those are my picks of the top trends and key pieces for next season. Now, I just need to get started on buying them!
