London Fashion Week opened with sunshine on 15th February in the heart of London town. The usual primping and preening was taking place outside of Somerset House, while inside the excitement soared – blast off, London Fashion Week had started.
The average show only takes about 10 minutes, but months of planning and thousands of Pounds go into the success of London Fashion Week. With more than 56 shows running over five days, LFW was expected to attract over 5,000 visitors – creme de la creme of designers, models, magazine editors, press and celebrities.
LFW has come to close and now that the excitement and magic has died down, we thought we’d round up the trends for you.
Red, black and white: A colour trilogy – Red was all over Preen with spatterings of black and white. Brilliant exploding sequined red “kapows” at Tom Ford (LOVE). Romantic red lace was seen at Clements Ribeiro.
Hear me roar – We simply can’t get rid of leopard print; do we want to? Well Tom Ford, Burberry and Simone Rocha don’t think so, so I guess we’ll stick with it. If you’re not brave enough to go the whole hog, try out a fab leopard print clutch – perrrfect!
Tickled pink – A bit of a surprise here really, but pink seemed to feature everywhere, and not just one specific pink either. The bevy of pink ranged from soft baby hues to full bodied fuchsias and hot pinks. Well it’s a great way to beat the ‘ol winter blues?
Burgundy anyone? – Last season ox-blood red and deep wine colours where very on, well AW13 we’ll revisit them, but this time round we’ll keep it slightly lighter. Loving it at Burberry and Christopher Kane, where they used the dark red hues across a range of sleek pencils skirts, dresses, and coats.
Gold everything – Gold bags, shoes, belts and jewellery; you name it, it was there and it was gold. Showcasing glittering gold amongst others was Burberry Prorsum AW13 and Mulberry.
Oversized – Skinny jeans are a thing of the past by the looks of it. The runway was all about billowing pants and big boxy coats. A lot of the pieces had a definite menswear-inspired feel, and they looked uber chic at Mulberry, Peter Pilotto and Temperley London.
So sheer – Lots of skin on the runway. The likes of Tom Ford, Christopher Kane and Burberry showcased sheer detailing across their designs, giving them a bit of a whimsical romantic, more feminine feel.
Don’t slouch! – The new slouchy clutch is super cool. It’s bigger than were used too and makes a big handheld statement. It’s not quite a clutch or a tote, it’s somewhere in between and is all about fun, comfort and a relaxed silhouette. Seen at Topshop Unique, Burberry and Mulberry amongst others.
Bold is beautiful – Wow, London Fashion Week showcased some seriously bold prints, and not for the faint hearted either. The eye-catching prints were in abundance at Peter Pilotto, Tom Ford and L’Wren Scott.
So there it is in a nut shell – Sultry Tom Ford, Burberry’s brights, punky Preen and Christopher Kane – we love them all and at least we have something to look forward to once autumn and winter draw closer at the end of the year.
