Taking your wedding guest look from day to night

You've been invited to your best friend's wedding. That's great, but the next thing you're faced with is the dilemma of what to wear. Choosing your wedding guest outfit can be tricky since you want to look your best, but don't want to upstage the bride.

If you've been invited to just the wedding ceremony, you only have to focus on choosing a daytime outfit. But if you're also going to the wedding reception, you'll need to transform your look into one that oozes party-style glamour.

Weddings are an expensive affair, what with having to buy an outfit, gifts and pay for travel and accommodation costs, so it's likely you won't want to shell out on a second outfit for the reception.

You don't need to panic, though, because you can simply take your wedding guest look from day to night by adding a few small, yet bold, accessories. Read on to discover more:

Slip into a pair of heels

Wedding ceremonies may not always take a long time, but everything that happens afterwards can last a few hours, most of which you will be stood on your feet taking photos. Therefore, you'll probably want to invest in a pair of comfy shoes. Turning up to the ceremony in a pair of sky-high stilettos isn't the wisest idea and will leave your feet feeling tired and sore before you've even made it to the dancefloor.

Instead, choose a pair of embellished flats or small, mid-heels for the ceremony and once you've reached the reception, change into your party shoes.

Add jewellery

Adding a statement piece of jewellery can instantly take your look from day to night, as well as make you look and feel like a true star.

Choose your jewellery depending on the style of your dress. For example, if your dress is patterned, you probably want to steer clear of an oversized necklace as this will make your ensemble look a little too overcrowded. Instead, jazz up your look with a pair of fancy earrings, like our Sri Lankan Rainbow Moonstone Earrings.

The teardrop effect combined with the delicate moonstones will add elegance and class to your evening style and will certainly draw the eye.

If your outfit has a high-neck style, on the other hand, you may not wish to add any jewellery to your top half. Instead, opt for a bracelet to add a touch of arm candy. Our Sky Blue Topaz Bracelet is the perfect piece to complete your party outfit and will no doubt dazzle its way into the night.

Wear a shawl

The temperature is bound to drop in the evening, so be sure to wear a shawl to the wedding reception.

This doesn't need to take the effect away from your dress, though; instead, choose a shawl that complements it. While it's not entirely a summer trend, faux fur accessories can be worn all year round.

Channelling the glamorous era of the 1960s, a faux fur shawl oozes movie star allure. Drape it around your shoulders in the evening and look the belle of the ball.

Apply lipstick

If you've opted for a natural makeup look for the wedding ceremony, glam it up a little for the nighttime reception. You don't have to go too over the top; simply adding a slick of red or pink lipstick will immediately give your look a much-needed pop.

Change your hairstyle

Another way to transform your wedding guest look is to change your daytime hairstyle. If you wore your hair down for the ceremony, style it into a cute up-do in the evening – and vice-versa.

For the more daring among you, adding fishtail braids and a few diamante hair pins will give your locks a bit of va-va-voom. Don't be afraid to experiment. Looking through the photo album after the wedding will make you realise just how awesome you really looked.
