The top 5 styles for the new season

With the first leg of fashion month kickstarting in stylish New York city, we thought it was only appropriate to take a look at the style trends that are taking over the current AW15 season.

It's safe to say that summer days have officially gone by, meaning it's time to pack away your shorts, sandals and other sunny day attire, and make way for thicker layers. While this may bring a small tear to your eye, the autumn/winter seasons have provided us with plenty of excitement.

So turn that frown upside down and get ready to be bowled over by this season's must-have style trends:

Faux fur

Faux fur ruled the runway this autumn, with the likes of Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney and Lanvin dressing their models in furs thick enough to fight off the chill. Coats, dresses and even shoes came adorned in layers of faux fur, with textures ranging from long and shaggy to short and curly.

Partnered with autumnal shades like burnt orange, maroon and khaki, faux fur ensembles were certainly fitting with the season and made for a warm and cosy affair.

Make sure a warm, fluffy coat is your top purchase for AW15 because this trend is here to stay.

Androgynous tailoring

Nothing says chic and on-trend more than a tailored coat or jacket, which is why this trend should be next on your autumn fashion chart.

Think oversized and asymmetric, heavily structured and a little androgynous; a tailored jacket or pair of trousers will instantly breathe new life into any casual ensemble.

Looking to the AW15 runway, Victoria Beckham's wrap-waist trousers were tailored to a tee, with the cropped style making them perfect for wear with some retro leather ankle boots.

Duster coats are another way to show off the tailored trend, often coming complete with a tie belt to help cinch the waist and create a stunning silhouette.

Rich velvet

If you're after elegance and luxury, you'll fall in love with the velvet trend. Spotted at the Alexander Wang, Christopher Kane and Giorgio Armani AW15 fashion shows, models strutted the runways in rich velvet complete in an array of bold shades.

Suits, dresses and capes were no stranger to the soft fabric, beautifully catching the light and giving off a stunning sheen through each movement.

For those planning ahead, why not wear a velvet cocktail dress to your Christmas party? You'll no doubt feel and look like the belle of the ball.

Distressed denim

Tearing it up a notch, distressed denim is a must for your casual autumn/winter wardrobe.

Worn by top supermodels like Cara Delevingne and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, the popular 90s trend has been revisited and revitalised.

Go bold and sport a double denim ensemble by pairing a denim shirt with your favourite pair of distressed jeans in the same or similar blue hue. Or get DIY-savvy and accessorise your distressed denim jacket with some colourful iron-on patches.

Graphic prints

Dior and Jonathan Saunders certainly didn't shy away this season, with both designers fully embracing zany, graphic prints in their autumn/winter collections.

Spiral, swirl and block patterns complete in a colour palette that can only be described as bold and bright were at the forefront of their designs, with models dressed from head to toe in graphic pieces.

If you want to turn heads, go all out and flaunt a two-piece in a matching vibrant print or break it up a little with some retro colour blocking.

Now you've nailed the trends, it's time to add some jewellery. Here at TJC we have a fabulous new collection of stunning AW15 designs. Check it out here
