Think ahead to summer: What you need in your beach bag

Now that we're halfway through April, we can really start looking ahead to the summer. The weather has already taken a turn for the better, meaning we'll be able to hit the beach nice and early.

Whether you're jetting off on a holiday or are planning on making the most of Britain's beaches, you want to make sure you have the perfect look ready and waiting in your beach bag.

Here are some must-haves to ensure you look good on the beach this season:

On-trend swimwear

Obviously one of the most important things to take to the beach is your swimwear, and this year there are some fab styles to choose from.

No matter what your style, you're sure to find the perfect beach look for it and your shape this season, with SS15 fashion really rocking SS15 fashion really rocking swimwear.

One of the biggest looks has to be contemporary sports swimwear. Rather than the purely functional styles previously associated with sports, this year the trend is all about clean lines, bright colour blocking and a slightly 80's dancewear vibe.dancewear vibe.

With interesting cuts, statement patterns and fun embellishments, this trend is ideal for everyone; looking good when featured throughout one-pieces, traditional bikinis and flattering high-waisted designs.

Chic sunglasses

What are we without our accessories? Even your swimwear needs the right supporting items to create a complete and cohesive look.

With this in mind, you definitely need to grab yourself a pair of chic sunglasses for your beach bag. As well as looking good, sunglasses help to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays; making them as important as sun cream.

There are a few different looks that are on-trend right now, with classic aviator or Ray-Ban styles fitting perfectly with sporty swimwear. If you're after a more feminine style, cat eye designs are also in fashion for SS15 and add a vintage vibe to any ensemble.SS15 and add a vintage vibe to any ensemble.

Stylish sun hat

Another accessory that adds glamour to your beach look while also being hugely practical is a sun hat.

While you apply sun cream to visible skin out of habit, most of us forget to protect our scalp, which can end up getting burned very easily.

A hat will help stop this – you can also use scalp and hair sun spray for added protection – while also protecting your hair colour, as well as helping you to look fabulous.

Great styles this year are 80s-inspired big floppy hats – think old Hollywood glamour – fedoras and trilbys. You can also pop on a vintage style head scarf for a retro effect.

It doesn't even matter if your hat is the same style as your swimwear as they tend to be pretty universal, meaning you can get away with the same hat for your whole summer wardrobe.

Glitzy jewellery

You might think that jewellery isn't ideal for the beach, but it is a great way to add embellishments to your swimwear and help you look even more stunning.

If you are more of a sun goddess than a water baby and like to spend your time on the beach soaking up the rays, then jewellery is definitely a great way to add something extra special to your beach bag.

Of course, you don't want to go for anything too chunky as it will mess up your tan lines, but long necklaces that can be layered up – like these three Glass Pearl, Glass Beads, Malachite and Green Quartzite Necklaces – add a boho element to your look and can introduce a contrasting colour to make a statement.

The long style tends to work with most swimwear styles, while also helping to elongate your torso in a flattering way.

Your bag!

Of course, you also need a beach bag to put everything in. This is a great way to add an on-trend item to your look, especially as you'll be carrying it around a lot over the summer months.
