Where in the world? This wonderful gemstone is abundantly found all over the world, including the USA, Sri Lanka, Burma, Australia, Mexico, Japan, Africa and of course Brazil – where exceptionally large stones come from. The famous golden orange-brown Imperial Topaz comes from the famous mines in Minas Gerais at Ouero Prito.

What’s in a name? The name topaz is through to be derived from the Sanskrit word ‘tapaz’, meaning fire. Others believe it comes from Topazios, an island off of the coast of Egypt (now called Zebirget)

Celebrity styling… Celebs love love it too, probably for the gargantuan sizes it comes in. It’s a great way to get oversized sparkle and to add a spattering of colour to an outfit. Take our very own Kate Middleton with her ever so pretty blue topaz and diamond earrings. And Katy Perry takes it to another level with her stunning statement cuff.
