What is December’s birthstone?
Drum roll at the ready…………..Zircon, Tanzanite and Turquoise. What a greedy month for having 3!
Each of these gemstones carries a unique blue tone making it a perfect birthstone for Minnesota’s frigid December winters.
Zircon is the oldest mineral on Earth, dating back more than 4.4 billion years. Found in the Earth’s crust, it’s common in most sands and sedimentary deposits, as well as metamorphic rocks and crystallised magma.
When people hear Zircon, they immediately think of a bright blue sky. However there are a wide variety of earth tone colours including green, dark red, yellow, brown and orange. The most popular colours are the vivid blue and Caribbean Sea colours.
If you are born in December, have no fear when it comes to the stresses of Christmas shopping, Zircon is said to aid in resting, bring prosperity and promote honour and wisdom in its owner.

Now we move on to the second birthstone of December, Tanzanite. This one of a kind gemstone is like no other, you can only locate it in one location on this Earth! That place is the stunningly beautiful Mount Kilimanjaro.
The gemstone itself is a colour like no other, possessing an exotic velvety blue with a rich overtone of purple. Tanzanite arrives in a variety of shapes, sizes and striking assortments, displaying its signature overtones of purple. In the larger sizes, you will see a display of a deeper, richer and more beautiful blue whereas the smaller sizes are much lighter and the lavender colour is more common.

Amongst the oldest known gemstones with a popularity that spans the globe and centuries, it has graced the necks of Egyptian Pharaohs and adorned the ceremonial dress of early Native Americans.
Turquoise is an opaque, light to dark blue or blue-green gem with its finest colour being an intense blue. It may contain narrow veins of other materials either isolated or as a network. Known as the matrix, these veins of colour are sometimes in the form of an intricate pattern. This is called a spider web.
Strength, protection from harm, physic sensitivity and connection to the spirit world are some of the benefits to owning a piece of turquoise. When a loving friend gives you this piece, that stone would protect the wearer from negative energy and bring good fortune as well as peace to the home.
